2020 Northwest Conference Cancellation

Dear Northwest NAHMMA members and friends,

The Northwest Chapter conference, scheduled for April 20-24, 2020 in Portland, Oregon is officially cancelled.

We appreciate your patience as the executive committee worked through all the possible options. After initially considering postponement, we’ve decided it was in the best interest, health, and safety of members, supporting sponsors, presenters, trainers, and attendees to cancel.  Thankfully, and much credit given to the hard work of our planning team, we were able to terminate our venue contract without penalty.

There is still a great and immediate demand for training.  I have asked the training committee to come up with recommendations on how to proceed with the 24-hour training. The health and safety of NAHMMA trainers and training attendees is paramount, and will be central to our decision whether or not to offer training at this time.

What if I registered for NW NAHMMA 2020?

NAHMMA will begin processing refunds immediately.  There is no need to contact us, unless you have specific questions.  Please understand that refunds may take 2-3 weeks to process.

What does this mean for the rest of the year?

In the coming months, the NW chapter will turn its focus to hosting the national conference in 2021.  We’ll be able to transfer much of the hard work put into planning 2020’s event into a future date in 2021.  Leadership is dedicated to looking for ways to still bring you some of the great trainings and sessions that were planned.

The 35th Annual Hazardous Materials Management Conference (NAHMMA National) is still on track, scheduled for September 20-25, 2020, in Universal City, CA. We encourage you to consider joining us there in the fall. For NW chapter members, there are scholarships available to attend.

As I sit here trying to adjust to the “new normal,” I am grateful for the hard work done by NAHMMA members in our local communities every day.  NAHMMA members are on the front lines of battling the virus and providing crucial services to the public.  Many don’t have the luxury of being able to telecommute.  Please keep yourselves and your families safe.

In health and wellness,
